Town Hall: The Town Hall is a prominent 1939 listed building that is much loved by Watford residents but it is no longer fit for purpose. Significant alterations and funding would be required to make it an efficient working environment for the Council. Alternative uses have been considered and the most appropriate option which would guarantee financial investment in the building while safeguarding its heritage aspects is a 4 or 5 star hotel.

How it might work: The introduction of dormer windows in the roof would allow bedrooms to be created and a small extension to the side (where the current prefabricated extension is) would be necessary to create a new entrance for the hotel. The Rickmansworth Road entrance would be retained and the committee rooms and the council chamber could still be used by the Council for key meetings and events but would also be made available for weddings and conferences. A number of former town halls in the UK have already been successfully converted in this way.
